Khaolak in Phang-nga province is situated on the Western Andaman Sea
Coastline of Southern part of Thailand, 100 kms north far from Phuket.
Its name – Khaolak derives from the national park Khao Lak – Lam Ru.
Khaolak is gaining more popularity among European
tourists. It is easy to get to Khaolak from Phuket about 45 mins by
car. Khaolak is quite, and not yet overdeveloped, just like Phuket’s
past 20 years.
Major beaches include as follows:

Khaolak Beach is, about 25 kms off Takuapa, this scenic beach with pretty sleepy area. The beach is a
pretty stretch of sand studded with smooth granite boulders. You
may walk from Khaolak beach through Bangsak beach.

Nangtong Beach is situated near Khao Lak. It
is not a really a busy beach except sometimes in the high season.
When the tide is in the beach becomes quite narrow in places. Also
there is not much natural shade. There is no entry to the beach in
front of some resorts which are situated very close to the ocean.

Bang Niang has a 1-mile range between 2
rivers. Swimming is possible any time of the day during the low or
high tide. Hotels’ price starts from budget to 4.5 star hotels like
Ramada Khaolak Hotel.

Bang Sak has about 14 kms south of Takuapa. The
beach stretches for several kilometers with a good places for locals
out for a picnic or drinks and seafood. Kukkak beach is situated
between Pakarang Cape and Bang Niang.

Kukkak is a peace and desert landscapes, not
like its name. Highlight is beautiful and curved beach with clean
and soft sandy but not steeply. The beach is not far from village
and not hard to find accommodation nearby. Hotels in Kukkak are
inexpensive. You may find a good bungalow with budget price easily.

Pakarang Beach follows on from Kukkak beach. Most
of local people call Pakarang Cape. This is a lovely beach but at some
parts it is not possible to swim because there are a lot of stones and
corals which are painful if you step on them. South of the beach is a
good place for bird watching.

Pakweek Beach is around the point at Cape
Pakarang, which continues on to become Bangsak Beach, is felt by most to
be the most beautiful stretch of the Khao Lak coastline. There are many
kms of mostly deserted beach with only a few resorts and restaurants.
About half way along it is Aow (Oeow) thong beach, more famously known
as White Sand Beach, a popular place for day trippers with its beautiful
sand, sloping gently into the ocean and three good restaurants and bars.
There is plenty of natural shade here but other parts of this very long
beach are more exposed.
